Create Your Own Fabric Patterns With Upcycled Materials: “Buy Nothing” is a big in communities that want to buy less, and create a more sustainable lifestyle. Artists are breathing new life into upcycled clothing, bags, and fabrics, reimagining them into wearable or decorative artworks.
In this 3-hour workshop in partnership with the Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies, we will use upcycled materials to create bold relief prints on fabric. You choose your project format! Bring a t-shirt or two, a fabric bag, a fabric placemat, use your imagination! We will use the relief printing method together with fabric inks to create beautiful new fabric designs.

Print on a t-shirt, a bag, or any fabric! Lightweight, smooth fabric works best.
What you’ll learn: We’ll carve designs into upcycled materials like foam trays and other plastics. We’ll learn to mix and roll ink to the proper consistency for best results. We’ll print our designs on fabrics or clothing of your choice.
What you’ll take home: It’s your choice what you will bring to print on. In addition, you’ll be able to bring your carved blocks home with you to continue the process there. It’s an easy project to do at home with friends and family.
Materials provided: Upcycled foam trays, fabric inks, brayers, rollers, exacto knives, cardboard, upcycled surfaces suitable for carving.
What to bring: t-shirts, fabric bags, or fabric to make custom prints. Fabrics that are thinner and that are lightly textured, like t-shirt material, will have the most satisfying outcomes. Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting messy.
